Artesania Latina JS Elcano Lifeboat

HISTORY OF BOAT JUAN SEBASTIAN ELCANO

Embark on an epic journey with the Juan Sebastian Elcano lifeboat. A wooden model of this historic sailboat brigantine Spanish schooner. She receives her name from the Spanish explorer Juan Sebastian Elcano, captain of amazing expeditions after the death of Fernando de Magallanes . She completed her first return to the world in 1522.

The new JS Elcano launched in 1927 in Cadiz, Juan Sebastian Elcano serves as an education ship for the Spanish Navy and Marine Guards. In the second semester of the fourth year of their education at the Naval Military School they conduct an instructional cruise, which is a six-month voyage to America and some twenty thousand miles of travel.

In preparation for the great oceanic journey of 3,600 miles between Lisbon and Hamilton in 1964 some of her sails were changed and after some hard training, the ship reached a speed of 15 knots. Build with this beautiful replica of one of its lifeboats.
