Bluejacket Jefferson Davis

The Jefferson Davis was one of the most famous of the swift patrol vessels. She was used both off the North American Atlantic and Pacific coasts. Jefferson Davis was one of the Campbell class of 14 revenue cutters. The class has been described as being the “ultimate Baltimore clipper,” square topsail schooners.

The Jefferson Davis was a majestic vessel that represented the height of maritime engineering during the mid-19th century. The ship was built in 1865 and was named after the Confederate President, Jefferson Davis She was originally intended to be a warship for the Confederate Navy. However, the ship was never used in battle as the Civil War came to an end before she was completed. Instead, it was repurposed as a merchant ship and became known as a reliable and efficient mode of transportation for goods and passengers.

The Bluejacket Jefferson Davis model is intended for the experienced modeler. The rugged 1/4″ basswood frames are closely spaced as in actual ship construction allowing plenty of bearing surface for a smooth planking job. The frames are pre-beveled to ensure easy clamping and a fair lay to the planking.
