Bluejacket Portland Power Vessel

The Portland Steamship Power Vessel was a historic steamship that operated in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It was built in 1889 and primarily operated in the waters of the Pacific Northwest, transporting passengers and cargo between Portland, Oregon and various other ports along the west coast.

The vessel was known for its reliable steam power and sturdy construction, making it a popular choice for travelers and merchants alike. It played a crucial role in the economic development of the region, helping to facilitate trade and commerce between different coastal communities.

Despite its success, the Portland Steamship Power Vessel eventually fell out of use as newer, more advanced ships emerged on the scene. It was eventually decommissioned and dismantled, but its legacy lives on as a testament to the important role that steam power vessels played in shaping the maritime history of the Pacific Northwest.

In 2002, scientists using sonar and remote controlled cameras located the wreck of the steamship PORTLAND north of Cape Cod. Lost in the “Thanksgiving Day Storm” of 1898, it is still considered New Englands worst maritime disaster. Her discovery was documented by specials on the History and Discovery TV channels, both of which featured the Bluejacket model.

The Bluejacket Portland Power Vessel kit is designed with laser cut pieces. They have added etched brass railings for all deck perimeters. The kit is spectacular with her etched brass wheel covering and above deck walking beam machinery. This 36″ sidewheeler is absolutely unparalleled!
