Caldercraft HMS Mars

HMS Mars was a 74-gun third-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy. She was launched in 1794 and served during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars.

HMS Mars took part in several significant naval engagements, including the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, where she was commanded by Captain George Duff. During the battle, HMS Mars provided support to other British ships and engaged in combat with the French and Spanish fleets.

After the Battle of Trafalgar, HMS Mars continued to serve in the Royal Navy’s fleet, participating in various operations and campaigns. However, in 1811, while under the command of Captain George Losack, HMS Mars ran aground off the coast of Denmark near the island of Saltholm. Efforts to refloat the ship were unsuccessful, and she was eventually abandoned and destroyed to prevent her from falling into enemy hands.

HMS Mars had a distinguished career and played a significant role in several important naval battles of the era. The story of her service and eventual loss is part of the rich history of the Royal Navy during the Age of Sail.
