Description

Caldercraft Milford Star

The Milford Star was a British fishing vessel that operated as a trawler in the mid-20th century. Side trawlers were a type of fishing vessel characterized by their side-mounted trawl nets, which were used to catch fish by dragging along the seabed.

The Milford Star was built in 1924 by Cook, Welton & Gemmell shipyard in Hull, England. It was primarily used for fishing operations in the North Sea and Atlantic Ocean, targeting species such as cod, haddock, and sole. The vessel was part of the fishing fleet based in the port town of Milford Haven in Wales, hence the name “Milford Star.”

Like many fishing vessels of its time, the Milford Star would have faced the risks and challenges of working in often harsh and unpredictable sea conditions. These vessels played a vital role in supplying fish to markets and communities, supporting the fishing industry and contributing to the economy of coastal regions.

The Caldercraft Milford Star kit features a hull that is fully detailed and made with GRP moulding. The kit also features CNC cut plywood deck and superstructure, a full set of white metal fittings, dowels, tube, rod etc. to complete the model as illustrated. The Milford Star benefits greatly from the added fittings of nets, buoys and ropes. Internal lighting can also be added to give additional realism to those late night Summer and Autumn sailings. This kit is intended for RC fun, however it also makes for an impressive display piece.
