CCV Models Tireme Romana

The Trireme was a type of warship used by the ancient Romans, particularly during the 5th to 1st centuries BC. It was a major innovation in naval warfare, and its design and construction had a significant impact on the development of the Roman Republic.

Trireme ships were long, narrow, and lightweight, with a length of around 120-130 feet (36-40 meters). They had three rows of oars (hence the name “Trireme”), with around 170 rowers per side. The ship’s hull was made of wood, often cedar or pine, and was covered in a layer of pitch to prevent water from seeping in.

The Trireme was propelled by a combination of oars and sails. The oars were used for maneuverability and speed, while the sails were used for longer voyages and to provide additional propulsion.

Trireme ships were incredibly fast for their time, with estimates suggesting they could reach speeds of up to 7-8 knots (13-15 km/h). This made them ideal for naval warfare and reconnaissance missions.
