Discover the Juan Sebastian (JS) Elcano kit from Artesania Latina! This is a wood and plastic model which is representative of a Spanish schooner brig sailboat. It is named so after the Spanish explorer Juan Sebastian Elcano, captain of the Magellan-Elcano expedition (1519 – 1522), which completed the first circumnavigation of the Earth.

This boat, launched in 1927 in Cadiz, serves as a training ship to the Spanish Navy and the Marine Guards. In the second semester of the fourth year of their career at the Naval Military Academy, students make an instructional journey. This is a six-month trip to America and some twenty thousand miles of travel. Currently, she continues to sail the seven seas.

In addition, the preformed plastic hull is provided for greater ease of assembly and new photo-etched details are included. The model of the Juan Sebastian Elcano school ship also includes parts of laser-cut wood board, hardwoods, plastic, brass, cast metal and sails.

Another great novelty is that the model kit includes the figurehead, the flag and the name plate to transform it into the great sailing ship Esmeralda, which is also a Navy school ship exactly like the Elcano but from the Chilean Navy.
